Athens, 18th April 2017: si-Cluster welcomes a new member, the Department of Environmental Physics – Meteorology, a part of the Division of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). The research areas of the Department include Satellite Remote Sensing, Climate and Climate Variability, Dynamics of the Atmosphere, Models for Atmospheric Circulation, Synoptic Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry, Oceanography, Physics of the Built Environment and Energy Planning.
In terms of Satellite Remote Sensing, the Department is member of the consortia for Copernicus Relay and Copernicus Academy, it is equipped with specialized image processing software and is cooperating since 2005 with the European Space Agency.
Mr. Konstantinos Kartalis, commented: "It is our belief that the participation of the Department of Environmental Physics – Meteorology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens to the si-Cluster will enhance space related applications in Greece as well as international collaboration especially in the field of Earth Observation as applied for the study of the environment and climate. We also believe that it will offer the opportunity to the staff member, the researchers and the students in our Department to follow space related developments and take advantage of the opportunities as offered through the network of public and private entities which participate in the si-Cluster".
