Innovation Clusters are "groupings of independent undertakings (innovative start-ups, small, medium and large undertakings as well as research organizations), operating in a particular sector and region and designed to stimulate innovative activity by promoting intensive interactions, sharing of facilities and exchange of knowledge & expertise and by contributing effectively to technology transfer, networking and information dissemination among the undertakings in the cluster"

Are knowledge-intensive, focusing on Research & Development of innovative, state-of-the-art, highly competitive products
Have strong exports orientation, penetrating regional, European, and World markets, boosting the competitiveness of Greece in the international landscape.
Possess success stories of international caliber, capable of convincing potential investors that Greece has world-class potential with a "can-do" philosophy.
Comprise mostly of SMEs, including start-ups and spin-offs, aspiring to become pioneers in their respective fields and benefiting the most from supportive activities spanning under the cluster umbrella.
Exhibit pre-existing/pre-cluster formation ("bottom-up" rather than "top¬down" approach), so that participating members recognize the importance
of clustering in their value-chain operations and for reaching critical mass to pursue larger projects.
Leverage the top-tier Hellenic human capital, constituting the pillars that support competitiveness, entrepreneurship and innovation in the clustering
ecosystem.
