New Dehli, India, 01.12.2010: Prof. Vassilios Makios, General Director of Corallia Clusters Initiative, participated in the discussion "Management and tools for leveraging international cooperation for cluster development", which took place within the framework of the EU-India Dialogue on Global Outreach of European and Indian Innovation Clusters,
on December 1st [preliminary agenda], under the umbrella of the "13th TCI Annual Global Conference: Competitiveness, Innovative Clusters & Prosperity", stated from November 29th to December 3rd 2010 in New Delhi, India.
The session, in which Prof. Vassilios Makios will participate in, addresses the challenges and opportunities from a cluster practitioner's perspective. It will focus on success stories and experiences sharing of Indian and European cluster cooperation, schemes, programmes and tools, mutual needs and how these can be fulfilled through international cooperation, constraints faced, support services offered and required from Indian and European clusters, quality management standards and technology tools in European Clusters, EU initiatives for safeguarding specific products.
The objective of the event was to stimulate and facilitate global outreach of European and Indian innovative clusters through, in particular:

Increasing mutual awareness on cluster policies, development methods and management practices
- Facilitating in Europe and in India access to and contact with the appropriate cluster stakeholders
- Fostering research, innovation and industrial cooperation between clusters in Europe and in India
In Europe, regional clusters are seen as key drivers for competitiveness, innovation and regional development are being promoted through both EU Member States national-level measures and EU-level support instruments, notably the 7th EU Research Framework Programme, the Cohesion Policy Funds and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme.

In India, the promotion of clusters formation and global standards of competitiveness have gained significance and momentum with organization like the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) Ministry, the Ministry of S&T and other research & innovation organisations taking initiatives in this direction.
